After the break we showed some of our own films including: "Did I Say?" and "Song for Tommy" by Diggy. "Crossed Purposes" which as you all know was a club effort for a recent north v south competition. The marvellous "H2O" by John Gannaway - who would think an ice cube melting could be so interesting? and the brilliant "Fort Pulaski" by Brenda and Denis Mabey.
When the final film had finished John Ellis got up from his position behind the vcr, mixer etc. and presented a copy of the video of his Golden Jubilee day. Councillor Keith Mann gave a very nice short speech - he said how much he and his wife had enjoyed themselves both at our show and during his year in office and was most grateful for the video. He confessed that the microphone transmitter had slipped down so that he had to trap it between his knees to prevent it completely falling off - a manoeuvre which meant he had to mince around a little!
I know that Norman and John Ellis to name but two were extremely nervous that things should go well and, in the event they did - the Mayor and his small entourage arrived promptly, the films went without a hitch. We had enough milk and sugar etc. to go around. The audience laughed in the right places - yes I feel sure we can record this as a special event and one to treasure. Thanks go to Ken Kendall for making such a wonderful job of presenting the show, John Green for his superb editing of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, John Gannaway for striking programme designs and printing and displays, Bernie Dennison for building an extra large display board, John Ellis for yet again bringing the electronic contents of his home in the back of his car and doing the projecting. Jack Ligertwood handled the lighting and of course Eve Mottram kept us all fed and watered.
